نرم‌افزار PSLT می‌کوشد با استفاده از ابزارهای قابل حمل، کاربران زبان اشاره را به غلبه بر مشکلات موجود بر سر راه برقراری ارتباط با دیگران یاری رساند.

محققان دانشگاه آبردین در اسکاتلنددر حال کار بر نوعی فناوری ویژه هستند که زبان اشاره را به متون نوشتاری تبدیل می‌کند.

زبان اشاره زبانی است که برای انتقال معنا، به جای الگوهای صوتی، از الگوهای علایم دیداری نظیر حرکات بدن و حالات صورت استفاده می‌نماید.
