چند سال قبل، ۱۷ تولید کننده و اپراتور تلفن همراه در کنفرانس جهانی موبایل گردهم آمدند تا استانداردهای مورد نیاز برای تولید یک شارژر جهانی را مورد بررسی قرار دهند. یکی از اهداف تعیین شده در این کنفرانس استفاده از یک شارژر استاندارد برای تمامی گوشی های تلفن همراه در سال ۲۰۱۲ بود.
